There is a concept of OUI which stands for Organisational Unique Identifier. It is a 48-bit hexadecimal address i.e we can have around 2 48 combinations which is around 281 trillion addresses. This MAC address is found on the NIC (Network Interface Card) and is hard coded by the manufacturer i.e it cannot be changed and is permanent.
